SAFMARINE ORDERS BOXSHIPS FOR EUROPE/WEST AFRICA ROUTE
Safmarine, one of the container shipping lines of the A.P. Moller group, has ordered three 2,100-TEU containerships designed to trade on its Europe/West Africa route.
The vessels will be built by Volkswerft, a German shipyard owned by the A.P. Moller group, and delivered during the second half of 2004.
Safmarine said that the new vessels will be geared, and equipped with reefer plugs for temperature-sensitive cargo. The ships’ dimensions will be suited to a number of important ports in West Africa, which have length and draught restrictions.
