SAMET JOINS SANDLER, TRAVIS & ROSENBERG
James Samet, former U.S. Labor Department deputy undersecretary for international affairs, has joined international trade and customs law firm Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A.
“Samet brings two decades of experience in law practice, government policy development, international negotiations and program implementation related to international trade,” the firm said. “He will be working in the firm’s trade and legislative practice, with a focus on global labor and corporate social responsibility issues.”
At the Labor Department, Samet worked with labor unions, employers, foreign governments and non-governmental organizations to develop strategies and address international labor concerns. Some of these initiatives included dealing with child labor in the Bangladesh garment industry, the soccer ball and carpet industries of Pakistan, and the coffee industry of Central America.
He also helped to implement labor standards projects in the garment industries of Cambodia and Haiti, and helped to promote the Apparel Industry Partnership/Fair Labor Association. In addition, Samet represented the U.S. government on the Governing Body of the International Labor Organization.
