Saudi Arabian ports meet ISPS security deadline
Jobara Bin Eid Al-Soraisry, minister of transport of Saudi Arabia and chairman of the Saudi Arabian seaport authority, said all of Saudi Arabia’s port facilities now comply with the maritime security requirements of the International Maritime Organization, several weeks ahead of the July 1 international implementation deadline.
All the port facilities in the country have approved port facility security assessments and port facility security plans, and have been issued with statements of compliance indicating that they can operate in accordance with the requirements of their approved security plans.
“We now have our plans in place and can play our full role in the international effort to detect and deter acts of maritime terrorism,” the Saudi minister said. “We have a continuing responsibility, which we readily accept, to ensure that the plans are implemented in full and kept up to date.”
