SAVI INTRODUCES CARGO SECURITY SYSTEM
Savi Technology Inc., a provider of asset management and collaborative logistics solutions, has announced the availability of its new SmartSeal hardware and software module for securing and monitoring ocean-going containers, air freight ULDs, truck trailers and railcars.
The system collects real-time data from a radio frequency identification tag used to seal a container after it has been packed. Savi’s asset management solution monitors the tag during transport. If the container is violated at any time, the system sends an alert, allowing the container to be isolated and inspected.
The SmartSeal module was reportedly tested by Dell, Hutchison Whampoa in Asia, and the U.S. Department of Defense.
“The security of freight, always a concern, has become even more critical after recent terrorist attacks,” said Adrian Gonzalez, senior analyst for the ARC Advisory Group. “The Savi system should appeal to shippers of high-value or regulated products, such as electronics and chemicals.”
Savi Technology, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., has about 250 employees. Founded in 1989, the privately-held company also has offices in Alexandria, Va.; San Francisco; Heidelberg, Germany; Hong Kong; and Singapore.
