Savi tags get boost From FAA, Powell
Savi Technology said the Federal Aviation Administration has certified its radio-frequency ID tags for use by airlines seeking to track cargo bins, baggage, aircraft parts and ramp equipment.
Savi is the first company to receive FAA certification for radio-frequency technology. Savi technology is used in numerous freight applications, including electronic seals for cargo containers. Certification testing was designed in part to make sure that radio frequencies emitted by the tags did not interfere with aircraft avionics equipment. Final testing was conducted on a United Parcel Service aircraft.
Savi also reported that U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell promoted the Savi SmartSeal sensor system during his visit to Thailand for the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum. The Savi system is being used in several container security demonstration projects, including one between the Port of Laem Chabang in Bangkok, Thailand and the Port of Seattle.
