SCFI ticks up 1.6%

The index’s slight increase reflected how the rate boost on the Shanghai to Northwest Europe and Mediterranean trades was partially offset by modest declines on the Shanghai to U.S. trades.

   The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index rose 1.6 percent from last week’s reading of 782.10 to a reading of 794.98, reflecting how the rate increases from Shanghai to Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean were partially offset by modest declines on the Shanghai to U.S. trades.
   Since last week, rates from Shanghai to Northwest Europe surged 20 percent, from $775 per TEU to $930 per TEU, while rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean rose 19.2 percent, from $725 per TEU to $864 per TEU.
   Meanwhile, rates from Shanghai to the U.S. West Coast fell 4.7 percent, from $1,528 per FEU to $1,456 per FEU. In addition, rates from Shanghai to the U.S. East Coast slipped 3.9 percent, from $2,513 per FEU to $2,414 per FEU.
