Sea Star changing reefer cargo rate structure

Puerto Rico trade carrier Sea Star Line will restructure its rates for southbound refrigerated cargo, effective Oct. 1, increasing rates based on cargo categories and types of shipments.

All 'terminal/terminal' reefer rates from Jacksonville and Port Everglades to Puerto Rico will increase 7 percent, the carrier said.

New terminal/terminal rates for shipments from Port Elizabeth, N.J., and Houston will increase $125 per refrigerated unit in addition to the charges for final moves from Jacksonville or Port Everglades.

Refrigerated cargo moving in shipper-owned or leased equipment will be adjusted by the equivalent per-unit amount, depending on the size of the equipment being moved.

Intermodal rate structures will be adjusted by the combination of the appropriate terminal/terminal rate and the inland charges based on Sea Star's 'ZIP code' tariff.

Company officials said shippers with questions should contact Sea Star sales representatives.
