áôSEAHAWK 02′ MILITARY EXERCISE BEGINS IN PACIFIC NORTHWEST

More than 1,100 active and reserve U.S. military personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, in addition to local law enforcement, the Canadian Defense Forces, and the Republic of Korea Navy have begun “Seahawk 02,” a 12-day port security exercise in the Pacific Northwest.

Phase one, to be held at the Pierce County Terminal in Tacoma, Wash., will involve land and waterside security during the loading of military equipment aboard a ship.

Phase two, to be held at the U.S. Naval Magazine, Indian Island, Wash., will test harbor defense during the offloading of military equipment in a simulated overseas port.

According to a statement from the Coast Guard, “the scenarios that will be tested require that military and law enforcement personnel respond to simulated hostile actions with appropriate force to ensure that mission-essential operations are not disrupted.”
