Seaspan orders four 5,100-TEU ships from HHI to charter to MOL

   Canadian non-operating vessel owner Seaspan Corp., has signed a contract with Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries to build four 5,100-TEU vessels at a cost of about $83.4 million per ship.

   The four vessels are scheduled to be delivered between April and December 2009, when they will be chartered to Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines for 12 years at an initial rate of $28,880 per day.

   Seaspan owns a fleet of 17 containerships consisting of 15 4,250-TEU vessels and two 8,500-TEU vessels. Seaspan’s order book now runs to 20 vessels with a combined capacity of 83,600 TEUs.
