SECURITY CARGO NETWORK PLANS FIRST MEETING IN ISTANBUL

Security Cargo Network, a newly formed freight forwarder network, plans to hold its first meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, Sept. 8, in conjunction with the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations' (FIATA) annual meeting.

The meeting's purpose is for FIATA members to become acquainted with the services offered by the Security Cargo Network. Nominations will also be solicited for the group’s Technical Industry Advisory Panel.

“The Technical Industry Advisory Panel is basically a regional advisory committee,” said Dave Lucia, president of the Security Cargo Network, based in Denver. “It’s purpose will be to represent the regional interests within the group, assist with resolving any disputes among members that may arise, and advise me concerning technical industry issues based on their expertise as freight forwarders.”

Lucia also said the advisory panel will serve as the group’s initial board of directors of the SecurityPlus! Member-to-Member Payment Guarantee Program, which will be spun off as a separate corporation.

Security Cargo Network was started in May and has 23 ocean and air forwarder members, comprising 43 offices in 19 countries. New members are being sought to join the group, Lucia said.
