Senate committee approves Chertoff for DHS job

   The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee unanimously approved the nomination of Michael Chertoff to be the next secretary of Homeland Security.

   Chertoff is a federal judge who previously ran the criminal division in the Justice Department from 2001 to 2003.

   Chertoff is expected to be easily confirmed by the full Senate to head the Department of Homeland Security. A vote is likely this week.
