Senator Lines starts South China-Middle East service

   Senator Lines GmbH, an ocean carrier based in Bremen, Germany, has started a new service between South China and the Middle East, using a total of four 2,000-TEU vessels in collaboration with Cosco, K-Line and Hanjin.

   The three partnering carriers, like Senator Lines, are members of the CKHYS alliance founded in 2001.

   The new service will link the industrial centers of southern China, the United Arab Emirates and Iran, with weekly departures in the following rotation: Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian, Singapore, Dubai – Port Rashid, Bandar Abbas, Singapore, and Kaohsiung.

   Senator Lines started its participation in mid-November with the 'Cosco Karachi,' flying the German flag.    The new service, which has a transit time of 11 days, is formally called 'South China Middle East Express (SMX).'

   'The United Arab Emirates are already Hong Kong's most important export market in the Gulf region, and figures are increasing,' said Hans-Hermann Mohr, chief executive officer of Senator Lines, in a statement.

   'Considering ourselves, as we do, to be a specialized container line, we shall be aiming in the future to expand our services to include rapid regional connections,' Mohr explained
