Shipco starts new air cargo service from China

Shipco Transport will start a new air cargo service from China to the United States in cooperation with Chinese air-cargo wholesaler UAT.

The Hoboken, N.J.-based consolidator said most Chinese agents do not deal directly with airlines, but rely on co-loading with other agents to get access to space and rates. Shipco said the “multiple lines in this chain” result in inflated costs and limited control over cargo for American freight forwarders and customs brokers.

Through the Shipco/UAT partnership, the American forwarder or broker makes the booking with Shipco. Shipco in Shanghai will follow up with the shipper and ensure the cargo is brought to UAT for shipping to the United States.

Since shipments will be on a “collect” basis, invoices are settled directly with Shipco in the United States, eliminating the need for any overseas transactions, Shipco said.

Shipco and UAT’s cooperation provides forwarders and brokers indirectly with access to contracts and capacity agreements with about 50 airlines serving nearly every customs airport in the United States, Shipco added.
