Shipping industry Web site provides facts to policymakers
A group of the world’s largest maritime industry organizations have created a Web site to encourage a better understanding of their business among policymakers and the general public.
The organizations added that the Web site is intended to “demonstrate the industry’s willingness to be open and helpful to those seeking information about its activities.”
The Web site, http://www.shippingfacts.com, will provide basic information about the structure of the shipping industry, its contribution to the global economy, and its safety and environmental performance. The site also contains a list of industry-related Web links.
The organizations operating the Web site are the Baltic and International Maritime Council, Intercargo, International Chamber of Shipping, Intertanko, and International Shipping Federation, with support from the European Community Shipowners’ Associations and Oil Companies International Marine Forum.
