Short sea carrier to start U.K.-Netherlands service

Norfolkline, a multi-modal short sea carrier which is part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, has contracted with the Humber Sea Terminal in Killingholme, on the east coast of the United Kingdom, to start a daily roll-on, roll-off ferry service between Killingholme and Vlaardingen in the Netherlands.

The new service will begin in June, 2006, when the first berth at Norfolkline's new terminal in Vlaardingen is expected to be operational. Norfolkline ferries offer freight and passenger services on the Irish Sea, the North Sea and the English Channel.

Vlaardingen, close to the A4, A20 and A15 highways near Rotterdam, is becoming 'more attractive for ferry transportation to and from the U.K., given current diesel rates and the pressure on driving hours,' Norfolkline said in a statement.
