Spirit Airlines starting service to Peru

Mirimar-based Spirit Airlines said it plans to begin offering daily nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Lima, Peru starting June 27, marking the carrier's entry into the South America market.

'We are thrilled to offer a low-fare alternative to Peru, growing the overall travel market and ultimately expanding trade between our two countries,' said Barry Biffle, Spirit's chief marketing officer. 'As the cultural and economic hub of the country, Lima is attracting more and more travelers.'

Spirit added service to destination in Central America earlier this year, including flights to San Jose, Costa Rica; Guatemala City, Guatemala; and San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Spirit has service to 36 destinations in the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United States.
