SSA Marine will start work this month on Texas City terminal
SSA Marine, a Seattle-based container terminal operator and cargo handling company, said construction will begin this month on a new container terminal at Shoal Point in Texas City, Texas.
Formally called the Texas City International Terminal (TCIT), the 400-acre facility will have 6,000 feet of berthing and a channel depth of 45 feet.
The terminal is being developed with private funds, according to Andy McLauchlan, SSA Marine’s senior vice president of business development and marketing.
A spokesman for Carlos Garza, mayor of Texas City, said half of the Shoal Point site owned by Texas City had been leased by the municipality to a holding company formed by SSA Marine. The remainder of the site for the terminal has been subleased from the State of Texas by Texas City.
