Star Shipping vessel damaged leaving port of Antwerp

A cargo ship operated by Star Shipping on March 11 collided with an entrance to a lock whilst departing the port of Antwerp.

The “Star Oshimana” suffered a three by 2.5 meter gash in the forward part of the vessel and is undergoing repairs in Antwerp.

Star Shipping said it expects the ship to resume its voyage Thursday or Friday to Zeebrugge and Bremen onward to the U.S. East Coast.

The incident on Saturday was not the first of its kind involving ships operated by the Norwegian carrier. In January, another Star Shipping vessel, “Star Herdla”, collided with a 35,159-deadweight-ton tanker just outside Boulogne in France, while in 2002 the “Star Hosanger” hit a terminal in the port of Baltimore knocking down a 750-ton container crane.
