State Department to hold UNCITRAL forum Jan. 9

   The U.S. Department of State will co-sponsor a maritime symposium on a harmonized cargo regime being drafted by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). The symposium will be held Jan. 9 at the Fordham University School of Law, Lincoln Center, New York.

   The U.S. Maritime Administration and the Maritime Law Association of the U.S. are co-sponsoring the forum, which is open to the public.

   Speakers will include Peter Gatti, vice president, international relations, for the National Industrial Transportation League; Michael F. Sturley, of the University of Texas Law School; admiralty attorneys Chester D. Hooper, Vincent DeOrchis and George F. Chandler; Jeffrey F. Lawrence, counsel for the World Shipping Council; and Mary Helen Carlson, office of the legal advisor, U.S. State Department.
