STB CONCLUDES FORMAL OVERSIGHT OF UP-SP MERGER

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board has completed its formal five-year oversight process for the Union Pacific-South Pacific railroad merger.

Since 1996, the agency said it had solved several disputes concerning trackage rights, which it had received from the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway in connection to the UP-SP merger.

The STB said, however, it will continue to be available to resolve merger-related disputes concerning BNSF’s trackage rights and various other conditions imposed on the railroad and shippers by the merger.
