STEVEDORING SERVICES OF AMERICA JOINS SST SECURITY INITIATIVE
Stevedoring Services of America, the largest American marine terminal operator, has joined the “smart and secure tradelanes” security initiative already backed by global port groups Hutchison Port Holdings, P&O Ports and PSA Corp.
Launched last year, the “smart and secure tradelanes” initiative aims to place electronic seals on containers to track them and to keep anyone from tampering with them.
Stevedoring Services of America has more than 150 port operations and container handling facilities worldwide, especially in North America, Africa, Asia and Latin America. The Seattle-based group handles a total of more than 15 million TEUs and trailers annually through its marine and rail terminals.
Jon Hemingway, chief executive officer and president of Stevedoring Services of America, said that the security initiative will be rolled out at the group’s marine terminal operations in the ports of Seattle and Long Beach in the U.S., and at its Manzanillo terminal in Panama.
On Tuesday (April 22), major European terminal operators in the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Felixstowe also announced that they had joined the “smart and secure tradelanes” port security program.
