Storm slows Caribbean services

Tropical Storm Chris Wednesday closed ports in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico and caused schedule adjustments for some Caribbean shipping services, but weather forecasters reported Thursday that the storm was weakening and would probably not develop into this year's first hurricane.

Port Charlotte Amalie, which serves St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and the Port of San Juan, Puerto Rico were closed to shipping Wednesday, when the storm appeared to be strengthening into a hurricane.

Meanwhile, Tropical Shipping announced it was adjusting its schedule, with scheduled Friday vessel arrivals into Anguilla and Providenciales expected to be delayed, and Saturday's scheduled northbound sailing from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic to the Port of Palm Beach rescheduled for Monday.
