Strong November volumes for Los Angeles port

Strong November volumes for Los Angeles port

The port of Los Angeles handled 627,787 TEUs in November, 15 percent more than in November of 2002.

The increase is partly due to a strong end of the peak shipping season in the eastbound transpacific trade.

Loaded inbound containers at the Californian port totaled 334,215 TEUs, up 15 percent on the corresponding month for 2002.

Loaded outbound boxes rose 3 percent, to 98,896 TEUs. The port reported a 23-percent jump in empty containers during the same period, to 194,676 TEUs.

For the first 11 months of calendar 2003, Los Angeles handled 6.6 million TEUs, up 19 percent from the 5.5 million TEUs moved in the same period a year earlier.
