Tanjung Pelepas sets handling productivity record
The port of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia, handled 4,316 container moves in only 12.7 hours during the call of the “A.P. Moller” containership, setting a new world productivity record of 340 moves per berth hour.
To obtain the fast handling result, eight quay container cranes worked simultaneously on the ship, which arrived at the Southeast Asian port at about 9 p.m. on Monday night from Algeciras, Spain, and sailed this morning.
The port of Tanjung Pelepas said the previous world handling productivity record of 336 gross moves per berth hour was set in 2001 in another, unnamed port.
Tanjung Pelepas’ own previous productivity record was 302 moves per hour, obtained Feb. 16.
