TISCHLER APPOINTED CUSTOMSÆ HEAD OF FIELD OPERATIONS
U.S. Customs Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly has appointed Bonni G. Tischler to assistant commissioner of the agency’s Office of Field Operations.
She replaces Charles W. Winwood, who has been promoted to deputy commissioner of Customs.
Tischler, formerly assistant commissioner for the Office of Investigations, has spent 29 years in various field and management roles at Customs.
'Starting July 1, Tischler will oversee about 13,000 Customs employees at more than 300 ports of entry. She will also manage the staff at the Customs Management Centers and field laboratories. Tischler is the first woman in the history of the Customs Service to lead Field Operations.
Last year, Field Operations was responsible for processing more than 480 million passengers and about a trillion dollars worth of cargo. The office is based in Washington.
