TNT TO MANAGE LOGISTICS FOR NEW VW VEHICLE
Volkswagen has outsourced all logistics operations for the production of its new Touran multipurpose vehicle to TNT Logistics Germany, Dutch parent company TPG N.V. said.
The Touran MPV is made in Wolfsburg, Germany, and will be on the market this spring.
The five-year contract, worth total revenue of more than 100 million euros (about $100 million), will provide Volkswagen subsidiary Auto5000 with a range of logistics services from parts planning, stock management, line feeding and sequencing of vehicles to the production of specific kits. In addition, TNT Logistics will manage the parts and inbound logistics for the body shop.
The partnership makes TNT the sole logistics service provider, streamlining management of inbound supplies.
TNT Logistics Germany (Schrader Group) has provided logistics services to Volkswagen in various manufacturing plants in Germany for 13 years, including fully integrated logistics operations for the Volkswagen Sachsen plant in Chemnitz.
TPG, the mail, express delivery and logistics company, is owned in part by the Dutch government.
