Trade help denied to Louisiana crawfish producers, Mississippi fisheries co-op

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service denied a petition for trade adjustment assistance filed Dec. 4 by a group of Louisiana crawfish producers.

A Foreign Agricultural Service investigation found that crawfish imports did not increase during the January-December 2002 marketing year, a condition required to approve the petition.

The agency also rejected a similar petition from the United Fisheries Co-op in Biloxi, Miss. A Foreign Agricultural Service investigation found that domestic producer prices of fish did not decline at least 20 percent during the January-December 2002 marketing year, compared to the previous five-year average.
