Trade ministers meet for informal FTAA talks

   A dozen trade officials met in Buenos Aires Tuesday and Wednesday to further develop the framework for the Free-Trade Area of the Americas.

   Countries with officials at the meeting included Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Chile and Costa Rica, in addition to officials representing the Caribbean and Andean communities.

   U.S. trade officials said the FTAA framework talks are “moving in the direction of a successful outcome.” The hemispheric trade agreement will include 34 countries.

   The trade officials plan to meet again in Puebla, Mexico in April.
