TRAFFIC RISES AT PORT OF MARSEILLES
The port of Marseilles reported an 8-percent rise in general cargo traffic for April, to 1.3 million tons.
Within this total, container traffic increased by 11 percent in tonnage, to about 0.7 million tons, and 10 percent in unit terms, to 70,700 TEUs.
For the first four months of the year, container traffic totaled 261,000 TEUs, up 9 percent on the same period last year.
A new service to Algiers and Oran boosted exports to Algeria by 14 percent, and there was also strong export growth to the eastern Mediterranean and Far East, a port spokesman said.
