Truck driver shot by truck stop security guard in stable condition: OKC police

The truck driver shot by a security guard at an Oklahoma City truckstop Friday is in stable condition, as information about the incident comes out slowly.

Sgt. Megan Morgan of the Oklahoma City Police Department said the driver, whose name is not being released, is still in the hospital and is listed in stable condition. His hometown is unknown, but Morgan said his truck and the business the truck is registered under are listed as being in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Reports that the driver grabbed the gun of the security guard, whose name also has not been released, are unconfirmed, Morgan said in an email to FreightWaves.

“I am not sure if the truck driver grabbed the security guard’s gun,” she wrote. “The only information we have so far is that the driver was allegedly parked in a reserved spot, and upon being confronted by security an altercation ensued which led up to the truck driver being shot.”

A colleague of Morgan’s, Sgt. Brad Gilmore, was quoted in a local news report last week as saying that “during [the] altercation, the guard discharged his firearm because he felt like he had to defend himself.”

The police department has not charged anyone at this point but is continuing to investigate, according to Morgan. “The case will be presented to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, and they will ultimately determine which charges (if any) are appropriate in the case,” Morgan wrote. “At that point they will determine whether charges will be filed or not.”

A driver gets shot by a security guard over a parking spot, because he didn’t pay for it… The security guard is more than likely trying to cover his ass by saying the driver went for his gun and the driver probably was upset when the security guard woke him up at 4 in the morning to yell at him and tell him he had to leave because he didn’t pay 15 to 20 bucks to park his truck! It’s ridiculous that drivers have to pay to park in the first place, especially when drivers are the only reason for truck stops! As a driver it pisses me off that I have to pay to park, especially when I fuel my truck there and spend my hard earned money on their overpriced crap! I hope the driver has a full recovery and ends up owning that place!

I have never had a problem with security guards at truckstops. Maybe these drivers with the racist attitudes, nasty smell and overworked persona are the problem.

One reason I don’t take my business to TA. They’re money greedy, over charging company. I go to Love’s instead. At least Love’s don’t charge for parking.

I’m a driver I’ve seen some nasty security thinking they are cops just cause they carry a firearm!!!! Life is to hard and precious for anyone to be shot over a parking spot like really there shouldn’t be any fighting if someone doesnt want to move give them a few mintues let them use the bathroom etc. If they take longer than expected ask nicely if they refuse call the cops simple no need to escalate things cause you want to show your authority…..

I’m a truck driver and I’ve been a truck driver for quite some time I’ve seen how some of these security guards Act towards truck drivers like there can you get the throne I was robbed about two young black males Dallas Texas they had four security guards on duty but they were competing against each other to see which one was going to get the girl on the inside of the truck stop they care less for the drivers as long as they can carry a pistol and a badge they think they’re King of the throne I was tired one night I parked in a reservation spot about 1 in the morning nowhere else to park and he did everything but pulled me out of the truck screaming cussing like I was stealing money from me there’s a few truck stops but I suggest no truck driver should go to and I hope the guy that got shot get some respect and like one person said I think security guard I have cameras on them as well as police officers and they wonder why the shortage truck drivers out there today because of the BS truck drivers got to put up with when they’re trying to get rest to get your food to you are you close to you but I think the one that got shot hour to get respect for the job he does not someone that walks around inside of a store what is chest sticking out because he got a gun

I been driving since 1981 and this new on slot of reserved or pay to park spaces is another way to fleece more money out of driver’s ,never mind your paying for over priced food which there isn’t much on your plate when you get it at them places and to hem security guards at most act like their the police when they are not if there’s a containing issue they should call the police ,but it’s a bad deal .if anything the guard is most likely covering his butt over it by saying the driver tryed to grab his weapon,a bunch of stuff, horse stuff going on there
