TRW, BOEING DESIGNING NEW 747-400 CARGO HANDLING SYSTEM
TRW Aeronautical Systems and Boeing Commercial Airplanes are working together to redesign the existing cargo handling system for the Boeing 747-400.
The new TRW-supplied lightweight, digitally controlled cargo handling system is targeted for availability by early 2003 for 747-400 passenger and freight planes.
The new cargo handling systems will be used on the planes in the main deck and lower lobe, and on the passenger version of the airplane in the lower lobe cargo areas. Each system will use TRW-supplied mechanical components, advanced power drive units and microprocessor-controlled electronic control systems.
