TSA seeks integrator for TWIC program
The Transportation Security Administration, which last week unveiled its preliminary proposal for the Transportation Security Identification Credential, switched gears again and said it plans to hire a single contractor to manage the program for controlling access at the nation’s ports.
A few weeks ago the agency said it would issue two requests for proposals, one to operate the central database of names and personal information for verifying longshoremen, truckers, rail workers and others are authorized to enter a secure port area; and one for operating enrollment centers and help desks, issuing biometric identification cards and doing other functions.
TSA now says it plans to integrate all implementation activities under a single contractor, as originally planned. The agency said that having a single party in charge would improve coordination between the various parts of the program.
