U.K. MINISTRY OF DEFENSE PICKS SAVI TRACKING SOLUTION
The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense, through its Defense Logistics Organization, has contracted with Savi Technology, a provider of supply chain security technology, to deploy Savi’s radio frequency identification (RFID) systems for tracking military cargoes.
The contract is Savi’s first defense-related government partnership outside of the U.S. Department of Defense, for which Savi has provided RFID units since the first Gulf War.
The U.K. contract calls for affixing 15,000 “410 Series SaviTags” on containers and pallets moved by truck, rail, ships and air cargo planes.
The tags communicate over radio frequencies with strategically placed, handheld readers, which in turn transmit data on shipment status.
