U.S. adjusts import limits for some textiles
The United States last week increased import quotas for certain types of textiles from the Philippines and Vietnam.
The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements, an interagency group chaired by the Department of Commerce that is responsible for supervising the implementation of textile trade agreements, issued directives to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection to adjust the limits for several textile categories. The changes essentially shifted portions of unused quota categories to other categories that had met their quota limits and were about to be embargoed for 2003 shipments.
