U.S. AIR FREIGHT TRAFFIC UP BY 5.3% IN MARCH

   The U.S. Air Transport Association reported an increase of 5.3 percent in U.S. international freight and express traffic for March, to 994 million revenue ton-miles.

   This compares with a total volume of freight and express traffic of 944 million revenue ton-miles carried by association airline members on international flights in March 2002.

   International mail traffic also increased in March, to 42 million ton-miles, an increase of 11 percent.

   Total international cargo traffic, including freight, express and mail, increased by 5.5 percent, to 1 billion ton-miles.

   By contrast, total domestic cargo traffic, including freight, express and mail, dropped by 0.4 percent in March, to 982 million ton-miles.

   U.S. Air Transport Association members include Alaska, Aloha, America West, American, American Trans Air, Continental, Continental Micronesia, Delta, Emery, Federal Express, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, United, UPS and U.S. Airways.
