U.S. Chamber declares anti-counterfeiting week
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has declared this week Counterfeiting and Piracy Awareness Week, and is renewing its focus on lobbying efforts in that area.
Both the House and the Senate have approved anti-counterfeiting legislation (H.R. 32) that requires the forfeiture of property and assets derived from counterfeiting and the bill is now ready to go to the president.
The chamber applauded that legislative victory, and noted it is promoting this week’s anti-counterfeiting efforts along with the Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy to raise overall awareness of the impact of counterfeiting and piracy on businesses, consumers and the economy.
“Counterfeiting and piracy impact every industry,” said David Hirschmann, the U.S. Chamber’s senior vice president. “No product is safe. This problem costs hundreds of thousands of American jobs, damages our economy, and threatens consumer health and safety.”
