U.S. CHAMBER URGES COMPLETION OF SINGAPORE FREE TRADE PACT

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce wants the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office to go through with developing a free trade agreement with Singapore.

“Significant progress appears to have been made on a comprehensive agreement that lowers current Singapore trade barriers,” said Myron Brilliant, chamber vice president.

Bilateral trade between the United States and Singapore reached about $33 billion last year. Singapore is the 11th-largest U.S. export market and the United States is Singapore’s largest export market.

A Singapore free trade agreement will cover contentious issues such as labor and environment, investment, intellectual property rights, competition and market access.
