U.S., CSG NATIONS DISCUSS ISSUES IN WASHINGTON

Maritime officials representing the United States and 14 maritime nations of the Consultative Shipping Group concluded a meeting in Washington, D.C. May 9 on an upbeat note.

Led by Brain Wadsworth, director of logistics and maritime at the United Kingdom’s Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, the CSG delegation came to Washington to make contact with the Bush administration, including the newly appointed Deputy Secretary of Transportation Michael Jackson.

The U.S. delegation was headed by Bruce Carlton, the U.S. Maritime Administration’s acting deputy maritime administrator.

“The discussions were frank and constructive,” covering a range of current issues and future trends in international shipping and national flag fleets, regulatory policies and legislative developments, MarAd said. Safety and environmental issues were also discussed.
