U.S. CUSTOMS NABS $2 MILLION ON HAITI-BOUND CARGO SHIP
U.S. Customs seized $2 million in cash aboard a Haiti-bound freighter late last week in the Miami River.
The agency said its inspectors boarded the Honduran-flagged Klaas I, which was “minutes away from leaving Miami for Haiti.” The unreported money was hidden in three large plastic trash canisters on the aft deck of the vessel.
Customs interviewed the crew, who were later released. The agency said it would continue to investigate the seizure in an effort to identify the owner of the cash and the individuals involved in the shipment.
