U.S. CUSTOMS NAMES HEFFELFINGER NORTHERN BORDER COORDINATOR
William S. Heffelfinger has been named U.S. Customs' northern border coordinator, overseeing the agency's activities in some 83 ports along the 5,525-mile border between Canada and the United States.
Heffelfinger will coordinate with other U.S. government agencies and Canadian agencies, and will serve as a point of contact for congressional inquiries and various trade and academic groups for northern border issues.
He will also serve concurrently as executive director of the Office of Border Coordination, the Office of Strategic Problem Solving, and the Interdiction Committee.
He has served as assistant to the commissioner since 1987. Previously, he served as director of law enforcement and acting deputy assistant secretary (enforcement) for the Treasury Department. He also served in the office of the assistant secretary (enforcement), the office of the assistant secretary (administration) for Treasury, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Bureau of International Commerce.
