U.S. CUSTOMS, NVOs MAKE PROGRESS ON AES

U.S. Customs and non-vessel-operating common carrier executives said they’re getting closer to developing a plan that would integrate ocean freight consolidation data into the Automated Export System.

The agency and NVOs wrapped up a three-day AES meeting in Newark, N.J., last week. “We’re continuing to work out the data and timing elements on this,” said Dean Groseclose, program officer of outbound programs at Customs. “We’re making progress.”

The goal of the meetings is to find a way to efficiently move export transportation data from the NVOs’ systems to the AES vessel transportation module. This data is especially important to Customs because it lets the agency know when goods are leaving the country.

Customs expects to hold another meeting with the NVOs next month.
