U.S, EUROPEAN, JAPANESE SHIPPER GROUP WIDENS GLOBAL MEMBERSHIP

The three original members of the tripartite shippers’ meeting – the
U.S. National Industrial Transportation League, the Japan Shippers’ Council and European
Shippers’ Council – have decided to extend the group to include representatives from other
major Asian countries and Canada.
The Hong Kong Shippers’ Council, the Korean Shippers’ Council, the
Singapore National Shippers’ Council, the Thai National Shippers’ Council, the Federation
of ASEAN Shippers’ Councils and the Canadian Shippers’ Council will attend the tripartite
group’s next annual meeting, an Asian shippers’ council official told American Shipper.
The tripartite group, formed in 1994, will hold its next meeting of
global shippers in September in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The group has adopted a policy of expanding the organization "to
include the shippers’ organizations that truly represent shippers’ interests in the three
major trading areas of the world," a spokesman said.
