U.S., Maldives sign customs cooperation pact
The United States and the Maldives have signed an agreement to cooperate on customs enforcement. Under the customs mutual assistance agreement Customs and Border Protection will exchange information, intelligence and training with Maldives Customs to help combat trade fraud, money laundering, smuggling, export controls and terrorist-related activity.
Many customs authorities are unable to share data and intelligence without formal agreements or treaties.
The Maldives is the 56th country to sign a customs mutual assistance agreement with the United States.
