U.S./Mediterranean carriers to raise rates
The United States South Europe Conference (USSEC) of ocean shipping companies has announced general rate increases both eastbound and westbound, effective Oct. 1.
Westbound, the general rate increase for tariff rates is $200 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container. The conference's eastbound tariff rates will also be increased $120 per 20-foot container and $150 per 40-foot container.
'These measures are part of the ongoing need to improve rate viability in order to sustain the level of service demanded by customers,' the conference said in a statement.
USSEC members are Maersk Sealand, Hapag-Lloyd and P&O Nedlloyd.
