U.S./Panama carriers raise rates

   Shipping lines of the Central America Discussion Agreement are planning to raise southbound freight rates from the United States to Panama, effective Sept. 1.

   The carrier agreement said its members have agreed to implement a general rate increase of $100 per 20-foot container, $150 per 40-foot box and $170 per 45-foot-long container.

   Carriers in the U.S./Panama section of the Central America Discussion Agreement are APL, Crowley Liner Services, Maersk Sealand, Seaboard Marine and Trinity Shipping.
