U.S. pork industry experienced swell in exports in 2004
The U.S. pork industry sold more than $2 billion in products to export markets in 2004, and achieved its 14th year in record-setting volumes with more than 900,000 metric tons shipped overseas.
According to the U.S. Meat Export Federation, American pork exports to Japan were 14 percent higher in volume (284,704 metric tons) and 22 percent higher in value ($893.7 million), but Mexico retained the top spot in tonnage with a 73 percent increase in volume to 329,767 metric tons and a 98 perent increase in value to $511.2 million.
