U.S. RAMPS UP SECURITY IN AIRPORTS, SEAPORTS

With a war in Iraq set to begin as early as Wednesday night, the U.S. government has heightened the level of security in the nation’s airports and seaports.

“I have directed additional security at our airports and increased Coast Guard patrols of major seaports,” said President Bush in his address to the nation Monday night.

Security experts warn that terrorists may attempt to conduct future attacks with “dirty bombs” by using transportation conveyances, such as ocean containers. The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection is closely monitoring all inbound container traffic.

Security experts also warn that planes leaving airports are vulnerable to possible shoulder missile attacks. Security will be increased in and around the nation’s airports.
