U.S. transport officials launch regulatory review
Have a beef with federal transportation regulations that crimp your business or lifestyle? U.S. Transportation Department Secretary Norman Y. Mineta wants to hear from you.
Mineta announced Wednesday a sweeping review of all existing and proposed regulations, and said he wants the public to recommend changes on how to make them simpler, more effective and less burdensome.
As part of the evaluation, the department will host public meetings April 12 and April 19 in which senior officials, such as General Counsel Jeffrey Rosen, will listen to public opinion on DOT regulations.
In addition to the meetings, the DOT will accept comments in writing until April 29.
Those who wish to speak at the public meeting must submit their initial comments by Feb. 25 and indicate their desire to address the officials in person.
Small businesses, trade associations and other interested parties affected by DOT regulations are encouraged to participate. The department said it will publish a report about the comments and list changes that are under consideration.
For specific instructions on submitting comments, go to the Federal Register http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a050126c.html, scroll down to Transportation Department and then Regulatory review.
