UASC SEES NO CHANGE IN COOPERATION WITH HANJIN

United Arab Shipping Co. said its joint U.S./Mediterranean/Mideast/transpacific services with Hanjin Shipping will continue, despite Hanjin’s recent decision to form a new global alliance with COSCO Container Lines, “K” Line and Yangming Marine.

The United Alliance of Hanjin, Senator Lines and UASC is not being terminated, and the current cooperative agreement is valid for about another two years, said Anil J. Vitharana, president of United Arab Agencies in Cranford, N.J.

UASC will not join the new COSCO/”K” Line/Yangming/Hanjin alliance, but said the United Alliance will run in parallel with the new carrier grouping.

Vitharana also said UASC’s container services to and from the Mideast remain unchanged and are not affected by the military actions in the region. The only change is that carriers have introduced a war risk surcharge to compensate for extra insurance costs, he said.
