UNION PACIFIC SEES RECORD THIRD QUARTER
Union Pacific Corp. will report a 'terrific' third quarter, despite a sluggish national economy, Dick Davidson, UP chairman and chief executive officer, said Friday.
'The results, to be reported Oct. 24, will show that third-quarter business volume rose nearly 4 percent compared with a year earlier. Lumber, construction materials, fresh fruits and vegetables, and other commodities set quarterly highs, Davidson said.
''We had a terrific quarter, in fact, a record quarter,' Davidson said during an interview on the CNBC television show 'Squawk Box.'
Davidson credited the record results on improved employee productivity and record customer satisfaction levels.
UP, North America's largest railroad, reports annual revenues of about $10.7 billion.
